Update: 11:22PM NON-GOVERNMENT organisations like the Spinal Injury Association and Fiji Disabled People’s Federation have been allocated $1.6millon to aid work carried out in communities to support persons with disabilities.
Attorney-General and Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said this was a jump of 800 per cent.
“It comes with requirements and needs to be made accountable and transparent,” he said.
“We’re also working with the Fiji Sugar Corporation to provide a facility for disabled persons in the west in its compound in Lautoka.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said persons with disabilities did not have a fixed place to go to in the Western Division and this facility would cater for the people.
He said this facility would be ready by September.
